Tips for Moving Your Home Business into Your First Office

Congratulations! Moving your business from your home into a physical storefront, office space, or unit is an enormous accomplishment. It can also be a daunting task. When you know you're ready to make the move, there's a lot to consider, and a lot of steps to take. However, this process doesn't have to be overwhelming if you take the time to do your research and prepare yourself. Thankfully, we have some tips for you to make the transition go even smoother.

Think of the Future

Even though you may not want to get ahead of yourself, thinking ahead about the growth potential of your business in your new space. You'll want to give yourself enough room to grow, and that means perhaps finding a commercial space that may seem a touch too big at first. However, down the line, you'll be thankful for the extra square footage for more desks, more display space, or perhaps a meeting room.

You'll want to make sure your current clientele is aware of your move as well. Send out multiple reminders via e-mail and social media channels to make sure there's no confusion where you'll be when the grand opening comes along. And make sure that grand opening is one to be remembered! Send out press releases, invite the local community, and really start off with one foot in the door.

Prepare Your Space

Even if it's a new construction, you'll need to do a little bit of preparation before moving into your new space. Getting a deep clean is vital to start off on the right foot, plus it'll assure you'll be passing health and safety inspections when those come around. Hiring a commercial deep cleaner will not only alleviate your stress about making sure you've gotten every nook and cranny, but it will give your business the blanket slate to really make it your own.

Another important aspect you need to prepare your new office is insurance. Commercial insurance that covers every aspect of business on the property is vital. Small business insurance is extremely important, as it will cover your workplace against damage and personal liability. You'll not only be protected, but you'll save yourself tens of thousands of dollars should there be a claim.

You'll want liability insurance as well as (and it may be a legal requirement), just to protect yourself against any mishaps or accidents that may occur on site. There's two types of liability insurance you'll want to consider: general and professional. General liability insurance covers bodily injury and property damage while professional liability protects your business against errors, be them clerical or not. Both may be the best option for full protection, but based on what your business is, you may only feel the need to purchase one type of liability insurance.

Moving Day

Converting your business from your home into an actual building is stressful enough, don't overdue it and handle moving by yourself. Hiring office movers is a simple and easy way to alleviate a lot of worry, especially when it comes to heavy furniture like desks, bookcases, and filing cabinets. Let them do the heavy lifting and unloading into your new space. All you have to do is to tell them where to put things to make your new brick and mortar business the best it can be.

Make sure to think about the decoration and alignment of furniture in your space as items are moved in. You'll want to create a comfortable atmosphere and vibe, especially for customers and clients. Find inspiration from businesses you admire, study interior design magazines, or just take a walk around your new commercial neighborhood and see how other businesses are set up. Creating a welcoming atmosphere where people want to return is your main goal. Concentrate on soothing, welcoming colors with bits of your personality thrown in.

Moving your business into a commercial space doesn't have to be scary. Let it be exciting, especially with all the thorough preparation you've done. With these tips and your business savvy, you'll be succeeding in no time.
